Life as a bell curve?

From the book of Ecclesiastes:

… Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment. So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless. Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”…

Quite on the pessimistic side maybe, yea? But definitely worth a ponder. There is this joke:

At age 4, success is…not peeing in your pants.
At age 10, success is…making your own meals.
At age 12, success is…having friends.
At age 16, success is…having a drivers license.
At age 20, success is…having sex.
At age 35, success is…having money.
At age 50, success is…having money.
At age 60, success is…having sex.
At age 70, success is…having a drivers license.
At age 75, success is…having friends.
At age 80, success is…making your own meals.
At age 85, success is…not peeing in your pants.

Surely enough, there are things I want to do before this weekend. There are things I want to do before I graduate. There are things I want to do before I find a girlfriend (yup, definitely). And there are things that I don’t want to do.

Tell me what you think.

In my youth group we’re just finishing up a several-week-long study of Ecclesiastes. It’s indeed quite depressing in the beginnning, but it gets a little less depressing. I pretty much just add “…without God” to the end of everything it says to make it less scary! Pretty entertaining, actually.

GOSH I could be the queen of useless comments.

      hey, that’s no useless comment!!

Ecclesiastes can sound depressing, but I love the book because it mirrors so much of my thoughts! Indeed, without God – everything would be “meaningless! meaningless!”. But the conclusion of the book (12:13-14) sums it up nicely, and don’t forget that God makes our lives awesome!

      Thanks for commenting!

I’m gonna have to check this book out now. And the “Age” success thing is cute and funny. Thanks for posting this ^__^

Thanks for the comment! Yea I got the joke from a lecturer.

Ecclesiastes can sound depressing – but I guess that’s the point – when we actually think about it, absolutely everything revolves around God. If not, then everything would be meaningless, as the book says!

Don’t know what do you think?

Oh. Well, I guess I must have been mistaken. %) It was the line ‘no probs if you are one of those who are reluctant to reveal much about themselves’ that I took to mean you were having a dig at me, in your previous entry, in case you were wondering how I managed to dig this hole for myself AND bury myself in it. My sincerest apologies.

I guess it’s time to get a name. What do you think of flobbity? %)
