Happy growing up

Illustration done for a friend’s 21st birthday.

I don’t think I will promise to do one ever again… Not anytime soon, anyway. Although I would very much want to, I realized that my time and energy just can’t cope. +_+

And I am not a girl, so I don’t know if there even is a chance of this situation happening. But if I was to take a guess – it’d be no. That only came to my mind when I had almost finished with the drawing though. Bleh.

Still, tell me what you think! Is what I’m trying to portray clear at all…?

Tell me what you think.

Wow, that’s really, really good! I like it a lot. A b-day present like that is very cool.

      thanks, :)
yea i think ppl would appreciate a hand-drawn illustration a lot (however crappy i am), but like i said, unfortunately i just don’t have the time and energy to do it for all of my friends… and doing it for some and leaving out the others create awkward situations… :|

Bah, your drawing is awesome! Yeah, I can imagine that friends would get upset and/or jealous. But you don’t have all the time in the world, so you can only do what you can, right?

omg so cute! XDDD and i think it’s pretty clear. :D

    •   reply | #

if by “pretty clear” you mean it’s clear that this girl is having a look at this long skirt (which is on sale) but realizes that she isn’t tall enough yet (hence “happy growing up”) – then i’ve succeeded! otherwise, i fail.

      •   reply | #

        :D it’s clear. and i actually have that experience quite a lot. -_-;

    Cool drawing. I like it!

thanks! it’s always an honor to receive a comment from a distinguished artist :)

i like your icon too. awesome sauce!

first of all, its a great picture! love the expression, body language, face and color. really well done.

though i’m slightly confused. is she looking nervous because she is growing up and can now wear a dress? or is she nervous about turning into a woman??

if that’s the message you are trying to portray, then you’ve made a very innocent version of it. ^_^ though a more accurate picture would be looking at a bra…. though i don’ tknow if your friend would appreciate that… o_0

its a great picture! i’m sure your friend will LOVE it! it is really sweet of you to take the time to create it!

i’m not sure if i should say this, but that wasn’t what i had in mind; in fact it is almost the opposite, hehe… what i had in mind was a girl trying on this long skirt (which was on sale), but finding it too long, because she’s, well, not tall enough yet. i started out having this super-cliche image of a small girl trying on a oversized (for her) lady’s dress, but decided that would be too cliche. obviously i fail terribly, but i would take it as a compliment, reading about the nervousness of growing up. i never thought of that!

      thanks for commenting!

whoops. i was totaly off. oh well! great job all the way around!

    No I have no idea what this pic means ^_^;

It confuses the hell out me but…blah. What can you do?

      obviously i fail. haha.

i really do like this…perhaps the unsure- ness of growing up,trying new things..wonderful how you show it!!

aah…. umm, what i had in mind was a girl trying on this long skirt (which was on sale), but finding it too long, because she’s, well, not tall enough yet.

probably not what you thought, eh? i fail haha. but i guess what you thought this drawing meant is a better message than i had in mind! ahah.

      thanks for commenting!

I am thinking…. haha… someday you could send me a picture like this as birthday gift. :)

    •   reply | #

…and i just said that i won’t promise anyone anytime soon anymore, haha =_=

when’s your birthday, jie? you’ve got to tell me what you would like me to draw too (coz figuring that out cracks my brain too)… only then can i consider the possibility of the when and the what…

      •   reply | #

10/25…. haha… anything you like to draw I will like because you draw really good.

I think I get what u’re trying to portray. And the colours used (especially in the skirt) make those folds and hem wonderfully.

    •   reply | #

thanks for the compliment, really. the skirt took me quite a while, mainly because i didn’t have a reference. so i was pretty much coloring blindly there, hoping that something not too bad will turn out!

    Hey Joseph,

Thanks for doing the drawing for me. It’s a great present, because somehow I think drawing for someone is more meaningful than just simply going into a shop and buying something (if its going to be something that the person might never ever use nor like). Yeah it doesn’t really happen in real life, because I think once you get after puberty, you pretty much stay that size forever and can’t grow anymore. But aww..please don’t think that you failed! Sorry and thank you for spending so much time and energy on it. I love it, thanks for the drawing, I really appreciate it!

oh hey, great that you dropped a comment!
no, please don’t think that I regret drawing it or whatsoever. It was good practice and I had fun anyways (like I always do whenever drawing). well the girl I was drawing is supposed to be pre-puberty but anyways. haha.
